Purpose of the job
To control and co-ordinate all aspects of ISO Systems in conjunction with the Business Manager to ensure
that all Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) Systems are implemented maintained and
adhered to according to the Site Policies and Procedures.
Key performance area
Updates SHEQ Policies, Procedures and Record keeping:
- Checks and implements all legally required policies, procedures and records for the company to
ensure compliance. - Updates, analyses & measures SHEQ metrics & statistics to ensure that the site is compliant with all
relevant legislation. - Ongoing communication, awareness and regular meetings to achieve to SHEQ issues.
- Improves & maintains Procedures and Works Instructions.
- Stays updated with and reviews all legislative requirements by improving and maintaining
procedures and working instructions. - Implements and maintains all relevant documentation by using a document management system
e.g. DIGILEX system daily. - Liaises with Railway Regulator on compliance standards to be communicated and achieved in the
company. - Compiles and monitors annual SHE plans for the company.
- Implements and communicates guidelines to ensure compliance with OHSACT and Regulations.
- Maintains ISO systems throughout the company.
Internal Audits Inspections and Management Reviews and Supplier and Customer Audits: - Inspects to control engineering standards within the organisation (checks Process flow; Mechanical;
Electrical; Instrumentation and Industrial elements) - Draws up audit plans and analyses audit reports monthly.
- Completes all audits and inspections on site.
- Completes quarterly surveys (Occupational Hygiene, Pollution and Fire) for reporting purposes.
Maintaining Non-conformance’s and Corrective Actions System: - Coordinates SHEQ awareness campaigns internally periodically.
- Oversees structural integrity of all silos under the guidance of a structural engineer.
- Handles all product related customer complaints e.g., Total Organic Content (TOC) levels.
Product Specifications: - Checks cargo arriving and workstations by visual observation on site to ensure clean production at
all times.
Safety Actions are carried out as per system legal and corporate requirements:
- Promotes and enforces reporting of ALL incidents incl. Near misses and first aid injuries.
- Champions health standards throughout the company e.g., Occupational Health, Occupational
Hygiene, Job Observations, Induction Training. - Updates and monitors Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) adherence on site continuously.
- Plans and communicates proactively for emergency situations e.g., evacuation plans, emergency
drills. - Investigates incidents to complete reports as required by legislation.
- Completes risk assessments and completes reports for the entire company weekly.
- Controls Hazardous Substances by conducting an environmental impact assessment monthly e.g.,
Pollution controller. - Controls contractors to check that they meet all requirements to proceed with a contracting
assignment on site e.g., induction video. - Checks for ergonomical good practise throughout the office environment.
- Promotes good housekeeping on site to achieve good hygiene and health standards.
- Schedules, arranges, coordinates, and conducts training and toolbox talks weekly.
- Coordinates and promotes Employee Wellness initiatives and medical checkups monthly.
- Completes Incident Recall reports for record and legislative purposes.
People Management and Communication - Consults with internal and external role-players where necessary about adherence to all SHEQ
requirements. - Controls and monitors the SHEQ budget and reports any discrepancies to line management.
- Places any SHEQ related orders based on pre-approval e.g., earplugs and dust masks.
- Liaises with insurance company and relevant role-players on insurance coverage and risk to
determine renewal of insurance policies. - Supports employees injured on duty with claim submission to relevant government department.
- Conducts presentations and reports to the management team regularly to obtain buy-in from top
management. - Sets and reviews SHEQ objectives and targets as part of change management initiative.
- Supervises and checks that all employees under this position’s supervision are utilised to their full
potential. - Informs subordinates of planned daily tasks at the beginning of each working day and manages the
achievement of these deliverables.

Experience - Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar position.
- Understanding or knowledge of ISO 9001:2008.
- Experience in Railway Regulations.
Qualifications: - Diploma in Safety Environment and Quality Management (EHS)
- B Degree in EHS (Advantageous)
- Certification to implement and audit ISO 14001:2004 and OSHAS 18001:2007 systems.
- Lead Auditor certification in ISO 14001:2004 and 18001:2007. Lead Auditor certification in ISO
9001:2008 - Certificate of Competence as Safety Manager.
- Certificate of Competence in Risk Management / Principles. Certification related to Integrated Waste
Management (SA).
Reporting structure: - This position reports to the Business Operations Manager.
Personal Circumstances: - Must be able to obtain a satisfactory medical report from the companies’ medical centre.
