Purpose of the job
The Occupational Health & Hygiene Student reports to the Occupational Health & Hygiene Coordinator
and works with a team that includes, but is not limited to, the employee assistance program (EAP)
practitioners, safety professionals, the company’s occupational medical doctor, human resources
personnel, and the occupational health nursing practitioner.
The main role of the Occupational Health & Hygiene personnel is to ensure compliance with national,
provincial, and local laws and regulations in the work environment. The Occupational Health & Hygiene
Student is responsible for assisting the Occupational Health & Hygiene Coordinator in maintaining
Occupational Health &Hygiene systems and programmes and provides his / her immediate supervisor
with information and to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
Key performance area

  1. Ensure adherence to legal compliance through monitoring and reporting.
  • Perform monthly self-audits (walk-through) of the site health hygiene actual status focusing
    on correct use of control measures, adherence to legislation.
  • Conduct compliance spot checks audits / inspections on the ergonomics of workstations
    and tasks to ensure adherence to legislation.
  • Conduct compliance spot checks audits / inspections on the illumination at workstations
    and tasks to ensure adherence to legislation.
  • Conduct compliance spot checks audits / inspections on noise exposures at work areas
    capturing noise levels using dosimeters to ensure adherence to legislation.
  • Conduct hygiene compliance spot checks audits / inspections at the canteen escalating
    deviations to ensure proper food handling and that staff adhere to acceptable hygiene
    practices in order to maintain food safety and quality.
  • Conduct compliance spot checks audits / inspections at the change rooms and escalate
    deviations to facilities management, Occupational Health Manager and Business SHERQ
    Manager to ensure acceptable health hygiene practices on site.
  • Report findings and recommend appropriate interventions related to occupational health
    and hygiene.
  • Actively participates in all audits, (internal, external, customer, service provider).
  • Participate in health risk assessment, identifying and analysing hazards, and assessing
    their effects on workers and the workplace.
  • Evaluate recommendations from occupational hygiene survey reports and assist in
    coordinating implementations.
  1. General Resources and Medical Centre Management.
  • Ensure that the external calibration of equipment is performed according to the schedule
    to ensure the output quality of the equipment is as desired and at par with the industry
    standards.
  • Keep calibration certificates and records safely and easily accessible for access when
    needed.
  • Conduct daily internal validation and verification on equipment to ensure the output quality
    of the equipment conform with some expected standard.
  • Conduct and maintain stock for appropriate personnel protective equipment.
  • Provide instructions to the sanitation workers, helpers, etc. for carrying out routine
    sanitation activities at the Medical Centre to ensure health and hygiene compliance.
  • Conduct housekeeping self-audits of the Medical Centre in line to hygiene compliance.

Purpose of the job
The Project Engineer is a technical specialist who reports to the Projects Manager and has the
primary responsibilities to:

  • Manage and coordinate the execution of small, medium and large engineering projects,
    ensuring adherence to design specifications, safety regulations, and project timelines.
  • Manage single discipline and multi-discipline projects to support the operations.
  • Ensure effective planning and execution of projects, delivering project closure on time in

    and formally approved.
  1. Project Schedule/Time management:
  • Identify, develop, manage and report on the key project milestones.

  • Accountable for all project costs through the life of the project.

  • Develop project Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) after fund approvals and ensure the
    WBS elements are costed and baselined.
  • Ensure all project resources (including human resources) are accounted for in the project
    costs.
  • Manage costs against baselines and report on Cost Performance Index (CPI) on a

  • Ensure accurate cashflow forecasting and adherence to baselined cashflows.

    SAP.

Instrumentation Controller

Purpose of the job
The Instrumentation Workshop Controller reports to the Instrumentation Supervisor and has the
primary responsibilities to:

  • Develop, and maintain in good order, an on-site Instrumentation Workshop.
  • Repair Instrumentation equipment that has been removed from site, as unserviceable,
    making it serviceable, and fit for reuse on the plant.
  • Completing A4, Root Cause Investigation on above instrumentation.
  • The Feedback shall include a formal 5WHY and/or RCA report that describes the root
    cause of the breakdown and/or failure of any equipment(s) and/or system(s).
  • Repair and/or replace the equipment that is not fit-for-service or unsafe.
  • Ensure that Instrumentation Equipment, to be repaired by third party partners, is forwarded
    to that third party, for strip and quote.
  • Regardless of repair or replace, ensure that said units are returned timeously.
  • Ensure that above instrumentation quote is checked for economic viability and make
    decision, in partnership with supervisor, on Repair or Replace, then place and expedite, in
    partnership with Procurement and Stores.
  • If stock item, then work in partnership with stores.
  • Manage instrumentation stores – Ensure accurate store management of Instrumentation
    Workshop Stores and be the interface between the instrumentation department and main
    stores.
  • Manage Asset register in partnership with Finance.
  • Manage instrumentation logistics – Despatch / Collection of instrumentation / tools / other
    items as necessary.
  • Be the custodian of Instrumentation Department Tools, Special Tools and Equipment,
    ensuring that they are maintained in good order, and are under safe keeping.
    Instrumentation tool inspections.
  • Ensuring that Tooling, Specialist Tooling and Equipment is Calibrated / Maintained as
    required and that such records are maintained.
  • Carry out workshop verification (“Calibration”) in accordance with international standards,
    of instrumentation requiring such.
  • Be the Custodian of Instrumentation records and documentation (Instrumentation Library).
  • Support plant Technicians and Mechanicians, sharing knowledge and experience as and
    when required.
  • Ensure Feedback is given to the supervisor concerning the Inspection, Repair and/or
    Replacement conducted within the area of responsibility.
  • Review opportunities (including organising external expertise and resources) to implement
    the Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) strategies with instrumentation systems
    stability as the main priority, specific to workshop procedures.
  • Ensure that the Housekeeping within the area of responsibility is always acceptable for
    Instrumentation Maintenance.
  • The responsibilities abovementioned shall be conducted in compliance with the
    requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act No.85 of 1993.
  • The responsibilities above mentioned shall include ensuring equipment is visibly marked
    for identification and working drawings (Process and Instrumentation Diagram) are always
    updated.

  • Inspect the conditions of the instrumentation devices, special tooling, tooling as per
    the Work Order (WO) instruction and identify deviations with regards to safety and
    intended operational parameters.

    per the Work Order instruction and identify deviations concerning the instrumentation
    best practices and safe operations of the equipment.
  • The inspection as per the WO shall be completed on daily basis.
  1. Repair, Replace and Maintain
  • Repair and/or replace all instrumentation within the area of responsibility.
  • Repair and/or replace any defective instrumentation testing equipment, special
    tooling, and tooling, which has failed or not available for immediate safeguarding of
    personnel and protection of instrumentation against extended damages.
  • Maintain the operational availability of the instrumentation.
  • Apply correct workmanship to avoid repeat failures of equipment and/or system(s).
    Repeat failure shall include failure of the equipment and/or system(s) on the same
    failure mode and failure within an unacceptable period.
  1. Housekeeping
  • Ensure that the housekeeping is always acceptable and is continually being
    improved.
  • Ensure 5S is implemented and continually maintained.
  • Ensure the housekeeping enforces and/or enhance the safety of personnel within the
    area of responsibility.
  1. Give Feedback
  • Ensure that the feedback concerning the work completed on the Work Order (WO) is
    given to the relevant planner within the same shift it was issued. The feedback
    concerning the closure of the Work Orders, 5-Why investigations and/or RCA
    investigations shall be given to the Work Coordinator within the same shift the WO
    was issued.
  • Ensure that reasons for all unserviceable Instrumentation, special tooling and tooling
    that are under repair, have been investigated making use of the 5-Why investigation
    method as minimum.
  • Ensure that the root cause of the breakdown(s) is identified correctly and resolved
    accordingly.
  • The feedback on the WO shall include required spares and/or improvements to
    ensure the repeat failures are eliminated and/or reduced. The required spares and/or
    improvements to the plant within the Instrumentation Controller’s area of
    responsibility shall be given to the Work Coordinator in writing.

Fabrication Supervisor

Purpose of the job
The Fabrication Supervisor reports to the Mechanical Manager and has the primary duties and
responsibilities of:

  • Being appointed as the OHS Section 8.2 for all NCP Chlorchem fabrication works to ensure
    all legal, statutory and equipment integrity quality compliance takes place in accordance
    with the requirements of the OHS Act, General Machinery Regulations, Pressure
    Equipment Regulations, SANS 347, ISO 3834, ISO 14731 and the relevant Design Codes
    of Manufacture.
  • Fully understand the Occupational Health and Safety Act requirements and ensure that all
    legal inspections and risk assessments are carried out and that general safety is adhered
    to across all plants.
  • Plan the execution of work as per the notifications generated from all internal clients across
    the NCP Chloorkop site. Plan the execution of work in line with the engineering standards,
    strategies and asset integrity philosophies for equipment, plant, machinery, and
    mechanical installations. Plan the execution of work in compliance to statutory and quality
    requirements. Plan and manage the execution of annual maintenance shutdowns from a
    Welding and Fabrication point of view. Ensure open and constructive communication takes
    place with clients.
  • Supervise and Coordinate the Fabrication personnel (Boilermakers, Welders and
    Handyman), equipment, materials and consumables required to execute work in
    compliance to statutory and quality requirements using RCM and RCA processes to

improve plant reliability and availability. Ensure the availability of personnel, sub-
contractors’ equipment, materials and consumables to execute the required tasks.

  • Lead the Fabrication personnel (Boilermakers, Welders and Handyman) in ensuring
    compliance with the execution of the tasks. Create a constructive environment to lead the
    team to engineering industry standards while maintaining good discipline.
  • Control the Welding and Fabrication infrastructure, systems, and resources in ensuring the
    Welding and Fabrication infrastructure is continuously available for operational purposes.
    Control and maintain the systems of work, plant, and machinery to ensure the health and
    safety of personnel and protection of machinery. Participate in the development of data
    books to capture all the information as required by the PER, SANS 347, ISO 3834 and
    Design Codes of Manufacture.
