Production Supervisor

Division: Production (Brine & Utilities)

Purpose of the job
The Production Supervisor reports to the Brine and Utilities Manager and will lead and manage a
Production shift through planning, leading, organizing and control, ensuring supply of product through
acquisition and effective usage of resources and to continuously ensure adherence to all safety,
quality, production, cost, environment, and legal requirements.


Key performance area
• Responsible for meeting production targets, plant performance, equipment utilization and reliable
distribution of utility services (Steam, Plant air, Instrument air, Cooling water, chilled water) to the
entire plant.
• Responsible for manufacturing of high-quality Brine at low cost and ensure optimum performance
of CBS (Ceramic Brine System) and the rest of the Brine system.
• Ensure effective coordination of all production shift activities to achieve production objectives.
• Effective coordination of supporting activities by various Maintenance Department and also
ensuring maintenance is scheduled optimally to maximize production output.
• Ensure safe operation of the plant and equipment.
• Ensure adherence to EH&S objectives are complied with daily and plant personnel adherence to
PPE standards.
• Ensure compliance to PSM (Process Safety Management) ISO standards, Risk assessment, and
MOC process are followed.
• Ensure plant planned/unplanned downtimes and delays are minimized.
• Take action on first occurrence performance problems, misconduct, disciplinary and grievance
cases.
• Support and development of personnel through coaching, training and achieve competency for
career progression.
• Manage and continuously optimize resources (people, leave, training etc.)
• Manage and reduce overtime cost within area of responsibility.
• Must be able to do monthly reports, PJO’s, A4’s/A3’s reports for any safety and process deviation
on the plant.
• Accountable for practical “declaration of competency” of employees to operate the plant.
• Ability to compile an incident report, in case of spillage or injury.
• Ensure the plant always operates within OWSP (Operate Within Set Parameters).
• Ability to solve technical problems on the plant by leading trouble shooting process.
• Facilitate effective communication up and down from management and within own and other
stockholders.
• Ensure effective and accurate shift handover within Supervisor’s level and Operators level.
• Continuously monitor Operators plant parameters input into the Moodi system and take
corrective action on time including laboratory results.
• Manage plant shutdown, start up and shutdown activities.
• Manage permit to work system on shift.
• Ensure high level of good housekeeping/5 is maintained in all areas of control and participate in
weekly 5’s audits.
• Ensure that all non-conformances issued against shift are resolved and closed out timeously.
• Participate in Incidents/Accidents investigation, HAZOP and daily production meetings as
required.
• Ensure SOP’s are understood, adhered to and assist with SOP’s, P&ID review when required.

Payroll Manager

Division: Finance

Purpose of the job
The Payroll Manager reports to the Finance Business Partner and is accountable for overseeing and verifying all financial transactions within NCP’s Payroll Unit. The incumbent is accountable for the effective management of all Payroll Administrators’ activities and must ensure that all information captured on the payroll system is accurate.
The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that monthly reconciliation activities are carried out accurately and that system parameters are set and controlled after modifications, i.e., employee tax. Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for ensuring that systems, policies, processes, and procedures are in place and maintained within this unit to effectively identify and manage risk, prevent fraud, and ensure compliance with legislative, regulatory, and good governance requirements and practices.
The responsibilities above mentioned shall be conducted in compliance with the requirements of the South African National Standard (SANS 10142 Part 1 and Part 2) and the Occupational Health and Safety Act No.85 of 1993.
Key performance area

  1. Develop Employee Payroll in line with overall HR and NCP Business strategy.
    • Provide input to the Annual HR Business Plan through the analysis of current versus required Payroll
    activities.
    • Ensure understanding of the business drivers and operational strategies that the HR department needs to
    support.
    • Continuously liaise with the HR Executive on HR strategy and operational requirements.
    • Prepare Employee Relations strategy, policies, guidelines, and practices in line with legislation and HR
    and company strategy.
    • Pro-actively align Payroll services to the direction given by the HR Strategy and ensure that NCP is
    protected from risks associated.
    • Networking nationally to provide leading edge Payroll programmes and solutions relevant to the chemical
    manufacturing organisation.
    • Ensure that Payroll standards are adhered to and improved upon.
    • Represent NCP on all Remuneration external forums.
  2. Management of the Payroll Function
    • Implement the payroll system for NCP.
    • Implement and manage the maintenance of the payroll calendar for NCP.
    • Ensure that all Payroll related timelines are kept.
    • Ensure compliance to ISO system within own Unit and log non-conformances as per ISO procedure.
    • Ensure that all practices are aligned with required legislation, standards, and policies.
    • Provide work instructions and schedules to subordinates.
    • Coordinate and supervise the capturing of authorised payments.

• Communicate any potential problem areas to the appropriate Line Manager and pro-actively develop
plans for rectification.
• Handle all payroll related queries.
• Manage, financial and non-financial data according to set standards and timelines.
• Monitor and advise on deviations to applicable conditions of employment.

  1. Effective control of Payroll functioning and salary payments to staff members.
    • Timely review and ensure sign off on payroll and tax reconciliations.
    • Make changes to and update the payroll tables and correct any errors when necessary.
    • Assume responsibility for monthly payroll processing.
    • Control / check all information provided by Payroll Administrators.
    • Co-ordinate the review, authorisation, and submission of payroll information.
    • Ensure payroll run is 100% accurate.
    • Provide general day to day assistance relating to payroll processes, procedures, requirements, etc.
    • Alignment of Parameters
    o Ensure that all parameters on the payroll system are aligned to legislative changes, i.e., employee tax
    end of February.
    o Loading of new release tax tables at the beginning of the tax year
    o Ensure the alignment of all third-party changes to the payroll system.
    • Ensure compliance to all legislative and regulatory frameworks.
    • Conduct PAYE functions.
    o Ensure distribution of IRP 5 documents to staff members on an annual basis
    o Updating of fringe benefit tax information when required
    o Reconcile and provide all payroll information to SARS monthly and for annual compilation of SARS
    documentation.
    • Ensure that payslips are issued monthly.

Mechanical Manager

Division: Maintenence

Purpose of the job
The Mechanical Manager reports to the Engineering Manager and has the primary responsibilities to:
• Define and implement engineering standards, maintenance strategies and asset integrity
philosophies for mechanical equipment, plant, machinery, and process installations in the
organisation.
• Define and implement the site mechanical maintenance, mechanical engineering and
mechanical reliability portfolio using CMMS software, SAP PM preferably.
• Improve plant availability through the effective utilisation of key in house and contracted
mechanical and services resources.
• Provide leadership and direction for the execution of stationary valves, piping, tanks, vessels,
heat exchangers, rotating equipment, pumps, compressors, utilities and boilers in the
organisation.
• Be an expert in preventative maintenance and compliance to statutory requirements using
OEM, RCM, 5Why and RCA processes.
• Develop and improve site compliance to statutory inspections and preventative maintenance
records on stationary and rotating mechanical equipment.
• Be a custodian for accurate root cause analysis and problem solving to prevent repeat
incidents.
• Plan and execute annual maintenance shutdowns and opportunity maintenance activities.
• Improve master data of spare parts and the quality of work done on rotable management.
• Lead a team of maintenance supervisors and engineers in adherence to SHERQ
requirements.
The abovementioned activities shall be conducted in compliance with the Occupational Health and
Safety Act, No. 85 of 1993 and all relevant NCP policies and procedures.
Key performance area

  1. Lead the provision of mechanical maintenance and reliability services.
    • Set objectives and targets for the mechanical department.
    • Achieve alignment with ISO55001 Asset Management for preventative maintenance on
    mechanical equipment.
    • Develop and implement an inhouse electrical equipment maintenance and service for the
    operation.
    • Ensure effective property, plant, and equipment according to OEM and useful life
    parameters are in place.

• Implement measures for asset utilization, equipment availability, maintenance planning,
reliability, and condition monitoring.
• Operational planning to support the implementation of strategic goals.
• Track, monitor and control engineering costs to within budget.

  1. Engineering, maintenance, and reliability projects
    • Managing several types of maintenance, safety, infrastructure, and capex projects.
    • Optimize plant spares to ensure that the correct number of shares are being kept
    (stockholding) and rotables are managed appropriately.
    • Establish relationships between various functions for critical input into maintenance
    projects and action lists.
    • Support reliability engineers to manage the deviations and reducing backlog on
    maintenance projects and statutory inspections captured in SAP and CCAS.
    • Development and management of a mechanical engineering dashboard. Track
    availability and Overall Equipment Effectiveness.
  2. Improve plant reliability and availability.
    • Ensure effective utilization of the SAP preventative maintenance and material
    management systems for all maintenance activities
    • Develop asset care plans for critical equipment to achieve preventative maintenance.
    • Critical problem solving and utilization of key asset care techniques of OEM, RCM, 5Why
    and RCA processes.
    • Champion for the breakdown business process and the achievement for a zero-repeat
    incident goal.
    • Ensure reliability engineers investigate equipment failures in area of responsibility to stop
    re-occurrences and conduct call out and overtime investigations.
    • Benchmark performance against industry standard, monitor the effectiveness of systems,
    equipment and employees and take corrective action if necessary.
  3. Site compliance to statutory and SHE requirements
    • Appointed as a GMR 2(7) according to the OHS Act
    • Lead mechanical engineering audits and regulatory inspections in achieving compliance
    to OHS Act and SANS codes
    • Ensure compliance to all engineering, safety, and environmental regulations and NCP
    policies and procedures
    • Ensure records are updated by artisans, technicians and supervisors; signed of,
    updated, and audited on SAP system within a week of inspection.
    • Responsible for execution of yearly shutdown and opportunity maintenance
    • Keep up to date with regulatory requirements and changes from the OHS Act
    • Maintain good housekeeping standard on site
  4. Lead and manage the maintenance supervisors and engineer.
    • Lead by influencing the employees to achieve the organizational goals.
    • Enforce the NCP policies and procedures by holding employees accountable for their
    actions.
