Purpose of the job
The Process Controller reports to the Production supervisor and is responsible for the relief operation of the TLP 4/TLP1/3C/Liquefaction. The position is responsible for the continuous cost-effective operation of the plant, which transforms raw materials to a final product, with the purpose of monitoring & maintaining operation parameters within limits and efficiencies in accordance with the manufacturing process.
The abovementioned activities shall be conducted in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, No. 85 of 1993 and all relevant NCP policies and procedures.
This position profile acts as a guide to the role only, and additional work outcomes may be required to be performed by the incumbent.
Key performance area
- Process control.
- Responsible for the relief operation of TLP 4/TLP1/3C/Liquefaction plant. In the event of manpower shortage the incumbent will be expected to cover on the affected plant.
- Responsible for the safe startup and stoppage of the plant and monitoring the plant whilst in operation as per SOP’s.
- Frequent analysis of the production process and its output and take corrective action for any deviation
- Analyses the in-process and final products
- Operates the plant according to the production plan
- Recording of production and utilities information on log sheets or moodi system
- Ensure that safe work permits and risk assessments are filled correctly.
- Jobcard generation for process deviations and breakdowns. Ensures that job cards are generated correctly.
- Reporting of plant abnormalities and defects report to production Supervisor
- Improvement of productivity
- Delivery of quality products
- Ensure adequate supply of raw material is available at all times for smooth plant operation
- Ensure Cost effective use of raw material
- Ensure waste reduction and off-spec/rework
- Control of effluent volumes
- Review laboratory analyses and take corrective action where necessary
- Carry out frequent plant inspection
- Assist with RCI investigations
- Responsible for safe making of equipment prior to maintenance
- Correct filling of Process logsheets including Start-up and stoppage checklists, ORP change checklists and other relevant checklists.
- Generates and initiates A3 and A4 reports for breakdowns, abnormal conditions and callouts
- Administration and EH&S.
- Ensure that the plant data is recorded correctly and timeously on Moodi.
- Accurate recording of production information on log sheets or Moodi system
- Uses all documents according to document management system
- Be part of RCI investigations and assist in information gathering for abnormal conditions
- Inspection of equipment on a shift basis and generate job card for any defect
- Completes process log sheets
- Generates job cards and issues safe work permits.
- Recording of production, usages and losses
- Observe the prescribed environment pollution limits
- Conducts regular safety checks
- Adhering to all relevant legislation and standards pertaining to the organization.
- Responsible for safe making and cleaning/decontamination of equipment prior and during maintenance.
- Effluent generation, management & treatment, and General Housekeeping pertaining to the operation of the plant.
- Responsible for the management of effluent in the plants and minimize the generation of effluent
- Help with other tasks in the plant as may be necessary and for which the incumbent can perform.
- Maintaining good housekeeping.

Experience
- Minimum 1-2 years’ experience in a similar position in a chemical manufacturing environment
Qualifications:
- Matric
- NQF Level 2/3/4 Chemical Operations
- National Diploma in Chemical Engineering (Advantageous)
- Valid Overhead crane license.
Reporting structure:
This position reports to the Production Supervisor.
Personal Circumstances:
- Must be able to obtain a satisfactory medical report from the companies’ medical centre.
