Purpose of the job
The Material Handler is responsible for cleaning, drying of CL2 drums. Ensure that all Drums are safe to pressure test, assist with pressures test of all Portable gas containers and cleaning of all drums. Loading and of loading drums and cylinders. Do first line maintenance on the test station.
The abovementioned activities shall be conducted in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, No. 85 of 1993 and all relevant NCP policies and procedures.
This position profile acts as a guide to the role only, and additional work outcomes may be required to be performed by the incumbent.
Key performance area
1.
Cleaning of drums
•
Move drums by using the crane and forklift.
•
Connecting drums for pressure testing.
•
Operate filling pumps.
•
Fill drums with water and assist with pressure testing.
•
Drain drums and move drums to cleaning bay.
•
Connect hoses and clean drums
•
Weighing of drums.
•
Operate dust extractor
2.
Loading and off-loading drums/cylinders.
•
Use forklift/crane to load drums/cylinders for painting and repairs
•
Off-loading drums/cylinders from trucks.
•
Load drums into racks.
•
Move drums to pressure test and cleaning bay’s using the crane.
3.
First line maintenance on plant.
•
Repair equipment on plant.
•
Replace leaking equipment.
•
Replace hoses on plant.
•
Drain and wash out dust extractor tank at.
•
Fill dust extractor tank with clean water.
•
Open filter and assist replacing filters on the dust extractor.
4.
Planning.
•
Ensure enough drums are ready for inspection.
5.
Housekeeping.
•
Clean area daily.

Experience
•
At least 3 years’ experience in a chemical plant environment.
Qualifications:
•
Grade 12 with Mathematics.
Reporting structure:
This position reports to the Inspection Manager.
Personal Circumstances:
•
Must be able to obtain a satisfactory medical report from the companies’ medical centre.
