Purpose of the job
Independently and impartially perform inspections of portable gas containers (Drums and Cylinders) according to legal requirements and standards SANS 10019, SANS 1825, SANS 17020, BS EN 14876, SANS 10460, SANS 347 and OHS Act 85 of 1993 – Pressure Equipment Regulation.
The abovementioned activities shall be conducted in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, No. 85 of 1993 and all relevant NCP policies and procedures.
Key performance area
1.
Inspector
•
Responsible for inspection, testing, maintenance and assemble of all Chlorine containers (refillable welded metal gas containers of sizes 0,5 l to 1000 Litre water capacity).
•
Perform Inspections with the use of an UT Wall thickness Tester, Boris scope and other measuring equipment required to determine the status of CL2 portable gas containers (Drums and Cylinders).
•
Perform internal and external visual inspections on all CL2 portable gas containers (Drums and Cylinders).
•
Tapping of Valve and Stud Bolt Threads
•
Conduct UT Wall thickness surveys on CL2 portable gas containers (Drums and Cylinders) as per the approved technical procedures.
•
Perform pressure testing on CL2 portable gas containers (Drums and Cylinders) as per the approved technical procedures.
•
Perform magnetic particle and Liquid penetrant testing on CL2 portable gas containers (Drums and Cylinders) when required.
•
Verification of calibration on measuring equipment and weighing of CL2 portable gas containers (Drums and Cylinders).
•
Verification of torque settings on valve installation equipment as per technical procedures and completing the daily torque setting report.
•
Mechanically assembling of CL2 Drums (Flanges, Dip Pipes and Stud bolts) and performing a pneumatic leak test.
•
Verification of the CL2 Drum Nameplate attachment, markings and legibility to legal requirements.
•
Making of new nameplates, printing of COM certificate, approval from AIA and final stamping by AIA.
•
Verify fitment and correctness of name plates.
•
Installation of RFID/Transponder tags and linking.
2.
Safe making of Drums and Cylinders.
•
Assisting in safe making of Drums and Cylinders.
•
Assisting the emergency response team with the sealing of CL2 portable gas containers (Drums and Cylinders) which are leaking.
3.
Administration & Record keeping
•
Compile statutory inspection reports of CL2 portable gas containers (Drums and Cylinders) inspected and tested.
•
Complete the required technical checklists and maintain records.
•
Prepare and control test inspection report.
•
Generate scrapped CL2 portable gas containers (Drums and Cylinders) documentation for scrapped containers before the disposal thereof as per the legal requirements.
•
Filing of equipment calibration certificates.
4.
Statutory inspection of vessels and storage tanks on site
•
Perform UT Wall thickness testing and visual inspections of equipment.
•
Perform Magnetic particle and Liquid penetrant testing on equipment.
•
Witnessing of pressure test on pressure vessels.
•
Perform leak test on ISO tankers and pressure vessels.
5.
Piping Inspection
•
Inspect Piping according to the requirements of the PER, SANS 347 and API 570
•
Perform visual inspections, UT wall thickness testing, magnetic particle, or penetrant liquid testing methods during the piping inspections.
•
In-service leak testing.
•
Compile and issue documented inspection reports.
•
Issue recommended repair documents for defects and deviations.
•
Working at heights.
•
Make relevant recommendations for repairs or replacement.
6.
Authorities
•
Draft the portable gas containers (Drums and Cylinders) repair scope of work and budget estimate quotes.
•
Scrapping of portable containers that do not meet minimum standard requirements.
•
Acceptance of new and repaired equipment with certification.
•
Shredding of outdated inspection records.
•
Arrange job card for defective equipment, test and release equipment after repairs.
