Purpose of the job
The Environmental Intern reports to Environmental Regulatory Remediation Specialist and works with the GRC team. The Environmental Intern must assist in monitoring and ensuring that NCP Chlorchem complies with Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality regulations; conform to NCP’s systems, policies, processes, environmental authorisations, water use license, air emission license, waste permits and procedures as well as Responsible Care® (including Process Safety Management) requirements and environmental legislations.

Key performance area

Implementation and maintenance environmental authorizations, air emission license, water use license and waste permits for the site/ business.

Implementation and maintenance of ISO 14001 systems, Responsible Care management practice standards for the site/ business.

Adherence and Compliance to the SHERQ Management systems and relevant standards

Update the environmental procedures.

Identification of critical environmental issues requiring intervention and resolution.

Provide general administration support.

Actively participates in all audits, (internal, external, customer, service provider).

Adherence to environmental and OHS legislation that is applicable to NCP Chlorchem

Environmental auditing of site environmental compliance & ISO 14001 requirements and issuing corrective actions to ensure future compliance.

Evaluate recommendations from environmental reports and assist in coordinating implementations.

SHERQ Responsibilities and Provide general administration support.

Technical improvements/ support in environmental projects undertaken on site to ensure compliance.

Interreact with relevant regulatory bodies, external consultants, and internal staff to achieve and maintain compliance.

Knowledge / skills/ Competencies

Knowledge of Environmental Authorizations, Air Emission License, Water Use License, Waste permits

Knowledge of National Environmental Management Act

Knowledge of National Environmental Management Air Quality Act.

Knowledge of National Environmental Management Waste Act

Knowledge of National Water Act

Knowledge of Ekurhuleni by laws

Knowledge of conducting Root Cause Investigations (RCI)

Computer Literacy in MS Office (Word, excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

Excellent report writing skills.

Knowledge of the inventory control system

Good Interpersonal Skills

Skills in auditing

Skills in conducting environmental assessments.

Attention to detail.

Good planning and organizing skills.

Good verbal and written communication skills

Experience

0 – 2 years’ experience.

Qualifications:

Matric.

National Diploma/Degree Environmental.

Personal Circumstances:

Must be able to obtain a satisfactory medical report from the companies’ medical Centre.
