Purpose of the job
The Process Controller Brine reports to the Brine and Utilities Shift Supervisor and is responsible for
continuous cost effective operation of the plants (Chemical make-up, Secondary brine, Brine
purification, Process Plant, Nano filtration, Brine control room/ DCS) which transforms raw materials
to a final product with the purpose of maintaining all laid-down parameters and efficiencies in
accordance with manufacturing process.
Brine process controller is responsible to ensure adherence to routine process activities (sampling,
data recording, housekeeping, plant inspections including plant start up and shutdown) and reports
any deviations to senior Control Room operator or shift Supervisor.
Key performance area
- Responsible for monitoring the plant and equipment whilst in operations
- Use of troubleshooting capabilities to solve process specific problems
- Uses process knowledge and abilities to achieve improved plant performance
- Frequent analysis of the production process and its output and take corrective action for
any deviation - Ensure that the all data is recorded correctly and timeously on Moodi.
• - Cost effective use of raw material
- Reporting of all defects during continuous supervision of the production and emergency
units - Taking samples and analysis in the plant laboratory.
- Operates the plant according to the production plan.
- Operates the plant according to SOP.
- Compile relevant area shift report during and at the end of shift.
- Conduct basic fault-finding and problem solving.
- Able to operate a Forklift.
- Reduce waste and off spec product
- Prevents uneconomical maintenance work by initiating work requests
- Plant inspections and housekeeping
- Ensure the quality of the final product is within the required customer specifications
- Conduct weekly pump rotation/ swaps to ensure availability of standby equipment
- Responsible for safe making of equipment prior to maintenance Ensure that work permits
are generated correctly. - Participate in Incidents/Accidents investigation, HAZOP.
- During emergency situation, evaluate the abnormalities and take corrective action as to
avoid downtime ,equipment damage and /or SHERQ incidents. - Ensure SOP’s are understood, adhered to and assist with SOP’s review when required.
- Ensure compliance to quality objectives and targets
- Ensure compliance to standard operating procedures
- Ensure quality incidents are reported on time
- Be involved in Plant Shutdown activities.
- Responsible for cleaning or ensuring of plant and/or equipment is cleaned and safe.
- Carry out all lawful and reasonable instructions given
- Help with other tasks in the plant as may be necessary and for which the incumbent is
capable of performing.
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies - Understanding of legislative and regulatory frameworks within area of work.
- Knowledge of ISO 14001, 9001, OHSAS 18001.
- Be able to work independently
- Ability to work under pressure
- Computer literate
- Work permit systems
- Plant and process knowledge.
- Good planning and organizing skills.
- Understanding NCP life-saving rules.
Experience - 2 – 3 years working in a chemical manufacturing environment.
Qualifications: - Grade 12 with Math’s, Science, English.
- NQF Level 2 : Chemical Operations.
- National Diploma in Chemical Engineering. (desirable)
Reporting structure:
This position reports to the Production Supervisor.
Personal Circumstances:
- Must be able to obtain a satisfactory medical report from the companies’ medical centre.
- Will be required to work shifts.
