Purpose of the job
Perform inspections rigging equipment within the area of responsibility.
- Execute rigging activities on site as required.
- Identify and report defective rigging equipment to ensure safe and effective rigging activities.
- Ensure that the Housekeeping within the area of responsibility is always acceptable and/or
better than it was before the working in the area. - Ensure Feedback is given to the line manager concerning the Inspection, Repair and/or
Replacement conducted within the area of responsibility. - Duties can include lawful tasks like cleaning, sorting, etc. to assist the mechanical
maintenance team to reach critical objectives.
The abovementioned activities shall be conducted in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety
Act, No. 85 of 1993 and all relevant NCP policies and procedures.
Key performance area
Inspect
- Inspect Rigging equipment to ensure that it is fit for use and compliant.
- Inspect Rigger truck to ensure it is safe for use and compliant.
Rigging Activities - Ensure that damaged equipment is reported to the Supervisor and replaced. Under no
circumstances can defective material be used for rigging. - Preform rigging studies before any rigging taking place.
- Always follow industry standard as an absolute minimum requirement for any lifting activities.
- Report any unsafe conditions before executing a rigging activity.
- Safe transport of equipment around the plant and/or to clients.
Housekeeping - Frequently interacts with external labs and coordinates the program activities with
responsibility Ensure that the housekeeping is always acceptable and is continually being
improved. - Ensure 5S is implemented and continually maintained.
- Clean and store all lifting equipment in its correct location.
Give Feedback
- Report any unsafe acts or conditions to the Supervisor or Line Manager.
- Report any defective rigging material to the Supervisor.

Technical Competencies - Extensive knowledge of industry rigging standards
- Basic problem-solving skills
- Valid PDP licence
Behavioural Competencies - Must be able to take instructions from Artisans and / or the Supervisor.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to work in teams.
Experience - Knowledge of Chemical manufacturing plants
- At least 5 years’ experience as a qualified rigger
- Qualifications:
- Matric
- Rigging trade
- Rigging / Inspection qualification (advantage)
Reporting structure:
This position reports to the Services Supervisor.
Personal Circumstances: - Must be able to obtain a satisfactory medical report from the companies’ medical centre.
